Jews in America are equally divided on whether Trump should have moved our embassy to Jerusalem. A far higher percentage of non-Jews in America thought it was a good move (in this case consistent with near unanimous congressional action from decades earlier (when the Democrats were a different party). Russia had a celebration of Russia Day at its embassy in Jerusalem this week. it recognizes West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, more than half of American Jews are willing to do. And then there is the odious Michael Chabon, a hero to the Reform movement who wants Israel gone, but Judaism destroyed as well. Good speaker for Hebrew Union College’s graduation ,it seems. His remarks were defended by school administrators, and wildly cheered by many in attendance, This brings back memories of Tom Wolfe’s Radical chic, and his description of the Leonard Bernstein party where black panthers were trashing Israel and the Jew and white people and cops, and the guests mostly Jews, applauded enthusiastically.
