Ellison called affirmative action a "sneaky" form of compensation for slavery, suggesting that white Americans instead pay reparations to blacks. It has been reported that, under the name "Keith X Ellison," he wrote defenses of Farrakhan against accusations of anti-semitism after the 1995 Million Man March, and again in 1997
In Feb of 2017, despite that history antisemitic behavior, in an open letter to members of the DNC, the following Jewish Democratic Congressmen, Reps. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), John Yarmuth (D-KY) and Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) defended Ellison’s record.
